CDN Edge Operations Engineer

Role Overview

Torque is a bespoke digital consultancy that provides digital acceleration services working across numerous market verticals internationally. We are looking for a motivated and technically curious Edge Operations Engineer (CDN Solutions Engineer) to join our infrastructure team. In this role, you will help design, deploy, and maintain edge delivery infrastructure — ensuring fast, secure, and reliable experiences for our clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who has a solid understanding of web

protocols and networking fundamentals, and is eager to grow into edge computing, CDN configuration, and performance engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and manage CDN platforms (e.g. Cloudflare, Fastly, AWS CloudFront, or Akamai) to optimise content delivery.

  • Implement and tune caching strategies including cache-control headers, TTLs, and purge workflows.

  • Monitor edge performance and investigate issues relating to latency, cache hit ratios, and origin offload.

  • Assist in configuring WAF rules, DDoS mitigation policies, TLS certificates, and security headers at the edge.

  • Write and maintain scripts and automation to manage CDN configuration changes and deployments.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and product engineering teams to support new features and traffic requirements.

  • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to incident response, troubleshooting, and post-mortems.

  • Document configurations, runbooks, and operational procedures clearly and thoroughly.

Key Skills/Requirements

The following are the core skills and experiences we expect candidates to demonstrate:

Core Technical Knowledge

  • Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL, DNS, and TCP/IP fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with at least one CDN platform — even if gained through personal projects, coursework, or labs.

  • Working knowledge of caching concepts: TTLs, cache-control headers, cache invalidation, and purging strategies.

  • Basic understanding of web security concepts such as WAFs, DDoS mitigation, and security headers (HSTS, CORS, CSP).

Scripting & Tooling

  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language — Python, Bash, or

  • JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment and using command-line tools.

  • Exposure to version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts.

Analytical & Problem-Solving

  • Ability to read and interpret HTTP request/response logs to diagnose delivery issues.

  • Methodical approach to troubleshooting — able to isolate variables and form hypotheses under pressure.

  • Exposure to performance profiling tools such as Chrome DevTools, WebPageTest, or curl.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication — able to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

  • Self-directed learner who takes initiative and asks good questions.

Nice to Have Skills

These are not required but would strengthen your application:

  • Hands-on experience with edge compute platforms such as Cloudflare Workers or Fastly Compute@Edge.

  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, Grafana, Splunk, or similar).

  • Understanding of multi-CDN architectures and traffic steering or failover strategies.

  • Personal projects, open-source contributions, or technical writing related to networking or edge delivery.
